, unfortunately they see your boyfriend or your girlfriend lying on the same bed with you…oops! , what do you expect or what will your thoughts become? Cohabiting also known as campus marriage can be defined according to Oxorford Advance Leaner Dictionary says that it is of a man and a woman to live together without being married. It can also be seen as a situation where by two people, especially a boy or a girl who are not married, cohabit, they live together and have a sexual relationship. There are about 65% of boys and girls who are cohabiting in this campus today. However, cohabitation is a common pattern among people in all the campus in Nigeria. Nowadays, it is seen as a normal step in the dating process. In fact, cohabiting is increasingly becoming the first co residential union formed among young adults. People may live together for a number of reasons explained in the next paragraph. Unlike my fellow guys in school, they believe that the only way to run away from home chores is to go and live with their girlfriends, who will then help or assists them from cooking, buying food stuff from the market etc. Furthermore, in advantage of girls , its saves them money , because of the convenient living with their boyfriends , or a need to find housing due to the extremely high cost of apartment and tight budget of today’s economy . Some couples live together as a way of trying out marriage to test compatibility with their partners, while still having the option of ending the relationship without legal cohabitation. Moreover, due to the fact that cohabiting shares the same qualities with marriage , Young adult will like to try it and know how marriage will change their life style. Also, in this our youthful age boys living with a beautiful girl are seen as a big boy while girls enjoy the financial securities. Some do this to get other boys or girls off the back of their man or woman. Cohabiting are not always happily ever after like Cinderella. Some guys will end up impregnating their girlfriends maybe in their eventualities or at the long run. Some will lose concentration on their studies and be disturbed by their partner always. While girls ,it may lead to unwanted pregnancy and abortion which may cause early death. It can also bring disrespect between the spouses because they have nothing to hide to each other again. Finally my advice to my fellow students is that to ‘be conscious of your future and make success in your academics’. The future is today.
